Bavarian Day at School

Traditional Tracht was requested for dress at school for Sophia today, which meant that we didn’t have to figure out what she was wearing this morning!! Sept 09 (3) Sept 09 (17) Sept 09 (18)

All the kids looked so cute, and so much fun to see the whole school in traditional dress.

Oktoberfest 2009 - The Video

Well, it just wouldn't be modern travel adventures without Video... The noise in the tents is just amazing! Mostly American songs the first night, and a good mix the second (John Denver and the Time Warp in between Nina & 99 Luft Balloons). Not too incriminating I hope!
Enjoy...

Oktoberfest 2009 – 2nd night, early!

I can’t believe we made it back for another night!  Tonight we were in the Paulaner Tent (with the giant spinning beer on top of the tent), and what a spread they put on.  We were in a side box off the main floor, surrounded by tables from one of the world wide accounting firms (boy could they party).  Most people in the tent were in tracht, and it was so much fun to be there with friends looking to just have a good time.  The beer flowed, the food arrived almost immediately after we sat down, and it just got better from there.

Thanks to you all who were there for making it such a fun night!

Oktoberfest 2009 – 1st night, later

You see the oddest things at Oktoberfest.

This year there were women walking around with Breathalizers, and for 4.50 euros you could see what your blood tox level was.

This guy was really, really into it.

Oktoberfest 09 (10) A couple of preparatory breaths, and then…

Oktoberfest 09 (11) Oktoberfest 09 (12) Oktoberfest 09 (13) He was so amazed after all he had ingested, that he only blew a 2.48.

Oktoberfest 09 (14) After receiving his certificate with his results, date, time, and string to wear it around his neck, he promptly fell down the 2 steps that led to our section.

Oktoberfest 2009 – 1st night early

Troy & i went to Oktoberfest for a couple of hours last year, but didn’t really feel like we had a proper Oktoberfest experience.  He had gone with the office, and had a good time, but we really wanted to go with friends & be able to really enjoy ourselves.  So last April, Troy made reservations for a table, and all we could get was a Sunday night in the Paulaner tent.   Sunday nights usually aren’t the best for drinking parties, but we thought it would still be fun.

Then, on Friday Brehan & Caro invited us to a table in the Hofbrau tent (American & Aussie party central!) for Saturday night.  So we dressed in tracht (traditional clothing – thanks Caro!) and managed to do Oktoberfest 2 nights in a row.  This (Monday) morning was tough…

Oktoberfest 09 (3) Getting off the train was like being in a cattle call.

Oktoberfest 09 (5) Looking down on the masses of people. This tent holds about 7,000 people inside, and an additional 3,000 in the outside seating.

Oktoberfest 09 (8) Our hosts, Moritz & Yagmur.

Oktoberfest 09 (6) Caro & Brehan – early in the evening.

Oktoberfest 09 (19) Troy & I dressed to blend in.

Back to life

Now that we are done with jet lag, hopefully, and teething has taken a bit of a break, we are able to get out & enjoy the last of the summer days, and the sun now that it is out.

Plus, both Brehan & Caro have been here, so much fun for the girls & great to see them so soon after leaving Seattle!

Alexandra is off to school too!

We were able to get Alexandra into a nursery school this year, and I am so excited, for her & for me!  One of the hardest things about living abroad, and not really having set days with a Nanny or babysitter, is being able to plan a lunch, or attend an exercise class, or get to the dr when you are sick, or take a nap when you are sick, or just take a nap.  Anyway, the class will give her some social time, and then she & I can still have some time together, and then we go pick up Sophia.

She was a little apprehensive the first day, but each day has been getting better, and today she was able to last the morning, and have lunch – very exciting!IMG_7226

She doesn’t have to have a backpack yet, but boy did she want one.

And yes, she really has her hair in a whale spout.  That’s the only style that she will leave in!
